I love the idea of starting new businesses. More than anything else entrepreneurship gets me going. I also realize that not everyone is into making money online like I am.
If you’re interested in making money through a side business but don’t want to take your business online here are three businesses you can start for less than $2,000.
A Handy Man Service
At some point in time everyone is going to need a handyman. Things break and not all of us have the skills to perform minor home repairs. That’s why starting a handyman service could be very lucrative.
If you want to get started as a handyman you’ll need tools, some do it yourself skills, and a van to haul around all of your ladders and equipment. You can do all of this for less than $2,000 by using tools that you already have or borrowing from friends and getting temporary van insurance with I4AD. This way you only have to pay for the insurance when you need it, therefore saving you money.
A Tutoring Service
Parent’s always want their kids to do their best in school. A parent of a struggling child will often seek help for him in the form of a tutor. If you have specific skills in a subject, tutoring could be a great business for you to start.
To get started spread the word about your new business. Post flyers at the school and let all of your family and friends in on your new plans. If you do a great job with your first couple sets of clients you may end up getting a ton of referrals.
It won’t cost you anything other than the cost of flyers to start a tutoring service.
A Childcare Service
I am a lover of kids but unfortunately don’t have the patience to babysit multiple children at once. However, if you possess that patience you could start a high demand childcare service.
There are some states which require you to get a certification in order to start a childcare service. It’s also a good idea to go ahead and take first aid classes before you start. Other than that all you need is a place to babysit.
You can start a childcare service for well under $2,000.
Conclusion
There are business ideas everywhere. You can turn something you enjoy doing into a nice little side business with a minimal amount of start up money. Think outside the box and you could start a business that you love.

Excellent ideas. Some business can be started without even having money at all, you need just the willingness to work and a good plan 🙂

Hey Alexa and thanks for the informative post. Turns out I do two of three things you mention: Tutor and Handyman.
My tutoring is in the area of guitar teaching. In fact, I did a guest post on that very topic and if interested, you can check it out here: http://makemoneyyourway.com/side-hustle-series-guitar-teaching/
The Handyman stuff I do is in the realm of computers. If someone has a problem with viruses, faulty hardware or just the usual, over time computer slow down, I can get them up and running again in an hour or two. This makes me some nice pocket change 🙂
As for child care, I have baby sat in the past and have been able to pick up a friend’s little girl from school, but that’s the extent of my child services. Like you, while I love kids, I don’t think I’d be that great with a bunch of them. I have enough just taking care of my cat 🙂
Take care and all the best.

Those are some great ideas. The ideas that I like best are the taxi service and the used clothing business. I have been thinking about both of them but I have to get some insurance on my car so that I can drive it. Thanks for the ideas, you just woke me up and I’m going to put your ideas into motion!!!
