How to Become a Social Media Evaluator with Appen

What Kind of Work Does a Social Media Evaluator Do?

Social media evaluators are given specific assignments to ensure that a social network’s newsfeed is relevant and accurate based on the criteria given. In this position you’ll evaluate photos, search queries, advertisements and more.

Each project is different. Before you’re accepted to a social media evaluator project you’ll have to pass a qualification test. Qualification tests are generally performed over the span of one week.

It’s also important to note that each project has a different contract length and hourly requirement. For instance you may be asked to work four hours per day, four days per week for a year for one project while others may only last a week long and be two hours per day.

Job Requirements

If you want to become a work from home social media evaluator here’s what you’ll need:

• You need to be an online, daily social media user
• You must be able to follow instructions and work independently
• You’ll need good communication skills both verbally and written (in English)

Here’s what type of equipment you’ll need:

• A computer that is less than three years old
• High-Speed Internet
• Microsoft Windows, Vista or Above or a Mac Operating System
• The ability to install applications to your computer

What Kind of Hours and Pay Can You Expect?

The hours for Appen will vary by project. However, to give you a broad idea they’ve recently asked applicants to be willing to work 1-4 hours per day, 5-7 days per week. This is a work from home position and the hours are flexible.

Although not stated on the Appen website there are dozens of reviews on Glassdoor with the social media evaluator salary at $13.24 per hour.

It’s important to remember that you are an independent contractor when working with Appen. This means you’ll receive a 1099 –MISC for income tax purposes and will need to pay your own quarterly self-employment taxes.
