We’ll be closing in on the final quarter of the year soon enough which means it’s a perfect time to check in on the important goals you set out to achieve months ago.
By this time of year, it’s common for people to change course, fall off track, or even give up on their goals. One thing that has helped me continue to work toward my professional, personal, and financial goals is Facebook groups.
Facebook groups are often private online groups for like minded people to connect, discuss a variety of topics, and share resources. Whether you have are a blogger, artist, mom, dad, athlete, travel enthusiast, entrepreneur, or a professional, niche Facebook groups can help you reach the goals you set in every aspect of your life.
For me, mastermind-style Facebook groups kind of came from left field because I always saw Facebook as the pit of hilarious memes and a waste of my valuable time. Ever since I joined a few groups however, my views have changed dramatically as I interact in the groups almost every day and I’ve been able to reach more success as a result.
Here are just a few ways Facebook groups can help you reach your goals and become more successful in various different aspects of your life.
Connect With a Like-minded Community
Joining a Facebook group is a great way to connect with like-minded individuals who either have similar goals as you or share other similarities with you. They great thing about being apart of a Facebook group is that you get to connect with people online who you probably wouldn’t ever meet in real life. That’s the beauty of the internet.
When you’re trying out a new project or trying to reach certain financial or business goals, you can start to feel isolated if your friends and family don’t understand what you’re doing or can’t relate.
Facebook groups offer a sense of community and you can expand your network by interacting with positive and supportive people.
Learn About Job Leads and Other Opportunities
Since Facebook groups promote a sense of community, it’s like having your own network so you can learn about other opportunities that might interest you. One of the best things I gain from being in certain Facebook groups is job leads.
Since I’m a freelancer, having job leads at my disposal is a must. I joined a Facebook group for freelancers a while ago and instead of it being all about competition to see who can land the best jobs, we all support each other and share opportunities and advice.
If someone is moving on from a gig, they choose to share the opportunity in the Facebook group so they can recommend someone who is interested. I’ve learned about many opportunities from that group and I recently had an interview and training session with a client based on a referral lead a group member shared.
Since I’m also a blogger, I joined a blogging Facebook group as well and found out about a few companies who were looking for sponsored posts. This helped build my income as well and without that online community I never would have known about the opportunity.
Get Answers to Burning Questions
Like I said, I’m in quite a few Facebook groups and I see members asking questions directed to the group all the time. Whoever is qualified to answer the question or has experience to contribute will respond to the thread in a reasonable amount of time.
Some people even share projects they are working on and ideas they have in the hopes of receiving feedback and constructive criticism from the group. It reminds me of a modern forum.
I love this because if you are confused or frustrated about anything or have a question that you don’t know who to ask, you can post it to the group and someone who can help will respond.
I joined a social media marketing group and most members have tons of good questions and we all bounce answers and ideas off each other so we can try out different strategies in order to see which one will provide the best results.
I’ve even learned about a few scams and shady offers to avoid as a result of asking question in the group.
Gain Access to Resources that Save You Time and Money
Another great benefit of being in a Facebook group is getting to hear about certain tools and resources first hand. Another group I’m in is about affiliate marketing and the host of the group shares so many resources and strategies that I need to make time to implement them all.
Boosting my affiliate income this year has been a big goal of mine and being in the group has definitely helped.
Adopting a healthier lifestyle was another goal I set this year and I joined a motivational Facebook group where creator of the group posts challenges and shares recipes and sample meal plans along with free workout plans.
It’s better to receive all these resources in one place as opposed to spending my time searching for them.
More About Facebook Groups
In case you didn’t already assume, Facebook groups are absolutely free to join. You may need to meet certain criteria to join and I know some groups are only open to people who buy a course or product so we can discuss it further, but for the most part, you should be able to join whichever Facebook groups interest you.
If someone tries to charge you to join a Facebook group, that might be a red flag because Facebook itself is free so you shouldn’t have to pay to be apart of a group.
Here is a little more insight to Facebook groups.
- Most groups will have rules so it’s important to review them before you contribute to any conversations or share anything. Most groups will ask for clean language and no internet trolling which is understandable. They may also forbid you from sharing self-promotional links that don’t benefit or support the group
- You don’t have to participate every single day. I know first hand that it can be a little hectic if you are in multiple groups and receive notifications all throughout the day. It’s nearly impossible to respond to every conversation in the group and still work a job and have a life. This is why I pop in every week or every few days to respond to threads that are relevant to me or to ask a question that is on my mind. If you have to take a week or two off for vacation or if things get too busy at your job, you won’t have to worry about getting kicked out of the group or anything.
- Make sure you know who the organizer of the group is so you can know who to reach out to if you have any ideas you’d like to propose. Or, if you requested to join a group and haven’t been accepted yet, you can reach out to that person personally. They are usually listed as the ‘admin’ on the group’s info page on Facebook.
- Also, don’t forget to introduce yourself when you get accepted so others can connect with you.
Have you ever joined and Facebook groups in the hopes of reaching personal, professional, or financial success?

I’m in quite a few Facebook groups, related to blogging, personal finance, freelance writing, entrepreneurship, etc. I’ve also recently started my own, for entrepreneurial moms. Do you have any recommendations of groups related to blogging?

I am in so many Facebook groups for blogging, biz, and entrepreneurship. I really need to go in and weed out the ones that aren’t that effective. But, I have had some great success with several of them. Getting more traffic, making connections, learning new things. They are definitely worth joining!

It can seem overwhelming if you are in a handful of groups but it’s always good to hear they are helping you.

Excellent tips! I’d love to see a list of recommended groups with it, like the one mentioned that focuses on affiliate marketing. It’s tough to find the really good ones with so many to choose from.

The affiliate marketing group I’m in is called Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing. It’s attached to a course though so you need to purchase the course and go through it in order to be added to the group.

I’ve been realizing more and more that using facebook as a social media platform is a great way to learn from others. Right now, my focus is on Twitter and Stumbleupon and I think I know more or less how to navigate through but the next beast that I need to tackle is Pinterest and Facebook. If you don’t mind me asking, what facebook mastermind groups are you in? I understand if you don’t want to say the name of the group!
Chonce says
I have a private mastermind group which is just where we focus on our individual goals for our blogs and freelancing. I’m also in the D.O.N.E Society which is led by Michelle at http://www.shopmyclosetproject.com and I’m in another group called ‘PF Bloggers Sharing and Building’ which is a smaller group where we focus on building up our Facebook pages and we share links to our FB posts increae engagement and support each other. You should join if any of that interest you.
