This is very interesting, Alexa. I’m building a business by private-labeling products and selling them on Amazon. I LOVE what I’m doing, but I haven’t taken a draw on my business because I want to let the income go for building the business until it reaches a certain point.
A little extra income wouldn’t hurt while I’m building. I think I’ll apply for this and see what happens! I’ll come back and post a follow-up comment to let you know if I was accepted. I don’t have a college degree so that could be my undoing, but everything else is probably a “go.”
Stay tuned!

Update: I just went through the application process. There was an odd question, though. The say that a lot of the work they have is related to “adult oriented material” and they ask this exact question:
Are you willing to participate in projects that may contain a significant amount of adult oriented material?
I clicked “no” so perhaps I’ll be declined as an applicant!
Alexa says
Hmmm interesting question! Thanks for the update 🙂 And I think it’s super smart of you to be reinvesting into your business. I’d love to know how the private labeling is going.
Alexa says
Just saw that you now have a site about it! Checking it out now……

Ree- I’m interested in how you’re building a business this way, is it through Amazon? Would like to know more details if you can share your website.
Thanks,
Lesia

Hi Alexa, Just wanted to update your other readers. I applied last night and received an email. There was interest expressed in continuing further. I also clicked no on the adult material, so apparently that is not an issue. Thank you for the post. I will update what I can as I progress. There is some non-disclosure, but I will provide what I can.

Hi Laura ~
It’s interesting that you received an email reply. I did not so I wonder what they’re looking for and how they make the distinction about “fit” from the application and resume. I’ll be interested to see what happens from here!
Alexa says
Thanks for the update Laura!

I made it to the exam portion. If I pass, I will be able to do the job. It is a three part exam and apparently has a high failure rate. There is a study guide. I have a week to complete it, so I will update again at that point. I would recommend applying even if you don’t meet all the minimum requirements. I met them all with the exception of G+ and an advanced degree. I do have a bachelor’s in English education. It is definitely worth a try. The pay is decent for at home work (I can’t disclose any more than that).

Hi, curious how you did on the test portion? Thank you!

I know this is almost a year later, but how did it go?
Mari says
Question… Hi!
My question is what type of degree do you need? I only have a High School Diploma.

Hi I applied for a job with one of the companies, Appen, that are mentioned on this blog. They wrote me back offering a job but also in the email said they would be needing my SSN when I sign my scope of work? Did anyone else have this happen and if so, did you provide it? Just makes me a little weary…
Alexa says
Hi Andrea, I haven’t worked for Appen personally but almost everywhere you work you’re going to have to fill out a W-9 for tax purposes. (You’ll receive a 1099 at the end of the year if you’re hired as a contractor or a W-2 if you’re hired as an employee.) Did they straight up ask you for your SS or ask you to fill out a W-9?
