I had to do a life update today so that I could thank all of Money Saving Mom’s wonderful readers for their emails and comments. Seriously, THANK YOU SO MUCH! All of your words of encouragement and tips made my day!!
Both of my girls have had colds that just won’t go away but other than that life has been pretty good! I have been digging myself out from underneath piles of paper for my bookkeeping job. I am on my way to getting everything caught up and organized. And it feels good!
I got my first electric bill and it was $203 for 18 days. This was a bit of a shocker for me seeing as I had budgeted $150. Heating a trailer is going to me a lot more expensive than I had originally anticipated. I am a little anxious to get next months bill.
I finally got the trailer fully furnished thanks to awesome hand me downs from my boss and family members. The girls are acutally loving living here. They are glad to have their own room again and a place to put all of their belongings. I let my oldest daughter pick out the paint color for her room which was very exciting to her!
Oh and I have gotten better at bringing my lunch to work. I have already used two of my cheat days but I am doing better than I thought I would.
I’ve got some pictures for you guys so you can see what the trailer looks like now that it’s done. It’s really not bad at all. Living here has been an easy adjustment for all of us!
(BTW Sorry these are so blurry, I took them with my laptop.)

Bummer about the heating bill. I feel your pain. The first house I rented after my divorce was similar. I got a 2 week bill for $200. I remember sitting on the bed and crying! The good news is that it went way down in the other seasons! Will your electric company let you average payments over a year so that you pay a flat amount ? The electric company I was dealing with was very reasonable and had several plans to help ease those high monthly bills.
I think you should consider an energy audit. In my area, they will send someone out for free to inspect and tell you how you can use less energy. There are rebates etc for additional insulation. There are also no interest loans where the payments are added to your electric bill . As a renter, they didn’t do me much good. Your situation is different though.
Good Luck and keep posting !

I am not sure if my electric company does the budgeted payments. We have two electric companies in my area. I know the one that I couldn’t get does the budgeted payments but I am not sure about mine. I would much much rather know what to expect when it comes to the electric bill so I am definitely going to look into that. Thanks for the idea!

I too am a single mom of 2 getting $50.00 a month child support, I was able to get on the discount plan and get a70% discount which amounted to about 54.00 a month, when I got my last bill it was 107.00 and I was surprised because it should have been the $54.00 but I just assumed it was because I was running electric heaters because I couldn’t afford a 1000.00 for oil, so I called today to tell them i couldn’t pay it and I asked why my bill went up because I’m on the budget plan, she said it doesn’t show here that you are but I see you were, seems someone took me off, I’m good until July, so after all that my bill went down to $50.00 a month, sometimes its worth that call just to see 🙂
