How to Get Clothes for Free

Making extra money means nothing if you can’t manage to hang on to it. At the same time it can take almost as much effort to save money as it does to make money. Especially, if you don’t have systems in place.

So I thought I’d start sharing some of my little secrets for saving money without a whole lot of effort. These will all be easy things you can do that pay off pretty well.

Today I’m sharing how to get clothes for free! It’s pretty awesome………….

Utilizing Referral Programs (Why & How to Do It)

When I began working as an insurance agent I had no dress clothes. My normal attire consisted of a pair of old jeans, my favorite Justin boots that seriously need replaced, and a simple top. Obviously my normal wardrobe was anything but office friendly and wouldn’t have put you in mind of someone you wanted to buy insurance from.

I started hitting up the clearance racks at the malls but had an incredibly hard time finding dress pants that fit me right. Then one day while my Dad’s girlfriend and I were thrift shopping I found a pair of pants that fit perfectly. (Best of all they were new with tags and I got them for around $10!)

They were name brand pants and even though I wanted to buy four more pairs I just couldn’t afford to buy them all brand new and couldn’t find any more at the consignment stores.

I started searching online and through random luck I found ThredUp. I signed up through someone else’s referral link and earned a $10 credit. I found tons of the brand of dress pants I needed and from there I was hooked.

But it got better they also had a referral program. Every time I referred someone to ThredUp they got $10 and I got $10 after they placed their first order. All of a sudden I was able to make my clothes budget really stretch by not only shopping secondhand, but also by getting my family members to try ThredUp. (Which they happily did since you can get a piece of clothing bought and shipped for less than $10.)

Clothing Companies with Referral Programs

Companies offer referral programs for one reason: they want new customers! Marketing doesn’t get any better than word of mouth.

While I (obviously) like to earn free credit to shop through these sites I’ve also spent money with them too. I prefer to buy brand name secondhand clothing for a couple reasons. First, I’m too cheap to buy brand new. And secondly I get way better quality for the same price of clothes I could buy at K-Mart or Target.

Here are some online consignment shops that offer referral programs you can sign up with.

ThredUp

You might be able to tell by now but ThredUp is my favorite online consignment shop. It was the first online secondhand store I had ordered from and I’ve always been extremely pleased with my orders.

ThredUp has name brand secondhand clothes for women, kids (boys and girls,) and babies.

If you go through my ThredUp referral link you get a $10 credit and I’ll receive $10 if you use your credit. You’ll then have access to your own ThredUp referral link and can share it with your friends and family. (I’d also share these links on your Facebook account too.)

LikeTwice

LikeTwice is very similar to ThredUp. They offer name brand, quality used clothing and accessories for men and women.

When someone signs up through your Twice referral link (that’s mine) they’ll earn $10 and you’ll earn $10 when they spend their credit. You’ll also both earn another ten dollar credit

Unfortunately this company went out of business!

Schoola

Schoola is a site I’ve only recently discovered. They offer kids, juniors, and women’s name brand used clothing for up to 70% off of retail. They also donate 40% of proceeds to schools!

With there still being a couple months until school starts right now is the perfect time to start browsing their website (and earning credit for school clothes.)

With Schoola you can get a $10 credit by going through my link. You’ll then have access to your own referral code when you create an account. When someone signs up through your link they’ll get a $10 credit and you’ll earn a $10 credit when they make a purchase.

How to Get People to Sign Up Under You Referral Links

I love companies that have referral programs but I also want to point out that this needs to be done in an ethical way. You should NEVER create multiple accounts under different email addresses or share the link with someone in your household.

Instead you just need to find other people like you who enjoy shopping secondhand and want to get some free clothes. Start with family members, friends, and by sharing your link on Facebook.

If you have kids right now is the perfect time to start earning some credit. Since you’re already shopping secondhand through these sites you can really make your credits stretch and stock up on essentials before school rolls around!
