For the month of May I shifted my goals slightly. I decided to focus on creating habits that would allow me to achieve my longer terms goals instead of primarily focusing on making money. With that said, I still have managed to make a little money online without too much effort so far this month. As of today I have made $130 in online income. ($40 from writing, $90 from this blog)
Budget
I have finally gotten a grip on my budget this month. This is largely due to the fact that I haven’t been running the furnace so my electric bill has dramatically dropped. I have also organized myself a little bit better. I went ahead and paid all of my bills for the month so that I can let my money accumulate a little.
Here’s what else I have done to save money:
- I haven’t been eating out AT ALL for my lunches at work
- I stopped taking cash out of the bank. (If I have cash I spend it quick. I am much more aware of my spending habits using a debit card. Plus if I don’t have cash I can’t eat out at work)
- I have been looking for deals on and offline. When I see something good I stock up.
- I am also planning on using coupons again. I bought the paper this weekend so I could give coupon clipping another try.
Work
My boss is offering me commission now on top of my hourly rate. (YAY!!) This means I need to sell some insurance! My goal is to do $30,000 per quarter. This will give me a quarterly bonus of around $2,500. If I can reach my goal then I will be able to start contributing to my savings again.
Time to brush up on my sales skills!
Deals
I decided that I need to look more professional so that I can sell some more insurance policies. First impressions matter a lot, especially when you are trying to sell someone something.
I wanted to spruce up my wardrobe a little bit so I decided to try Thred Up. I ended up getting five things for $48.93! I got four new shirts and a pair of Ann Taylor dress pants. My items just came in and I am impressed.
I used coupon code LADY15 which gave me $15.00 dollars off of my order and free shipping because it was over $50 before the discount. You can also try KORI35 which will give you 35% off of your first order. If neither of these codes work you can go through my code here. You will get $10 off of your first order and I will get $10 off of my next order. Win-win situation!
I was also in need of toilet paper so when I seen a half price deal for soap.com I snatched that up as well! You can go through Living Social and buy a $18 dollar voucher for $9. I bought the voucher and then added $25 worth of stuff to my cart so that I could get free shipping. In total I spent $16.94 and got an 18 pack of double roll toilet paper and two packages of 18 count Tide Pods.
Normally I wouldn’t buy the Tide Pods because I think they are too expensive but since I was in need of toilet paper anyway I looked at the Tide like getting $9.00 off. So it cost me $5.79 for these. I love the way they make my clothes smell!
I am going to keep on looking for deals, give couponing another shot, and try to make some more money! I think here before too long I will be back on track financially. I am definitely looking forward to that day! 😉

Great work on the commission, that can really be a nice way to bring in some additional income. No big deals for us lately, but we’re always looking. 😉

Congrats on now getting commision…that’s a nice boost and incentive! I’m always on the look out for deals. If you use living social often, don’t forget to use a shopping portal like ebates to get another 5% cashback. Not much but it adds up. There was a special offer that just ended where ebates offered 14% cash back at gap/old navy (and the stores were offering 40% off) My wife needed some summer maternity clothes so she got a decent deal. As for toilet paper, surprisingly I got a good deal at Staples (yes they sell that!). $7.99 for 24 double roll. And I get $25 Staples gift cards for $20 with Discover points (can also buy discounted Staples gift cards online).

I need to use something like Ebates. I always figured it would be too much work to go through another site to do my shopping but the cash back is worth it. I don’t have a nearby staples or I would be looking there for some deals.

Good to hear you got a grip on your budget this month. Furnace can really kill that bill but its nice to hear you are going to be getting money on top of your hourly pay. An 10k per years sounds nice and only $50 on clothing.

Yes, I am so thankful the cold weather is over. Budget relief for me !
